


The Ipact team
Dr Julia Hussein
Julia Hussein is Scientific Director of Ipact and one of the key drivers behind the internationally recognised research programme on maternal mortality reduction, Immpact.
Julia has worked closely with the Principal Investigator of Immpact, Professor Wendy Graham and Immpact's various international partners to develop and shape this complex
global research programme and build the foundation for Ipact. With her continuous strong commitment to Immpact's future work, she is now leading the application of
Immpact's tools internationally through her role in Ipact. Julia graduated in medicine from Trinity College Dublin in 1986 and then completed specialist training in
obstetrics and gynaecology in the United Kingdom. She also holds an MSc in Public Health. Julia worked as a clinician and trainer in Afghanistan, and has managed maternal
and reproductive health programmes with the United Nations, the British Government, and several non governmental organisations in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. At the
University of Aberdeen, she conducts evaluation research on maternal mortality reduction strategies in developing countries. Her special interests are in measurement of
clinical quality of care, participatory learning approaches and maternal mortality programme planning, design and monitoring.
Dr Etheline Enoch
Dr Etheline Enoch is the Project Manager with Ipact. She is a medical doctor and public health specialist. Originally from Brazil, Etheline has extensive project management experience in public health and has worked with international
agencies and academic institutions in Africa, South America and Europe. She is responsible for managing Ipact evaluation work and training activities and facilitates the successful operation and
completion of missions carried out by Ipact.
Shelagh Barr
Shelagh Barr is the Business Development Manager for Ipact and is responsible for developing and maintaining a global communications strategy for Ipact.
She is focused on establishing relationships with customers and stakeholders and developing the Ipact customer base. Shelagh has 18 years experience in marketing and business development
activity gained from working in various challenging and rewarding roles across a diverse range of industries including, newspaper publishing, commercial radio, tourism and the performing arts.
Her experience is underpinned by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing.
Krystyna Makowiecka Krystyna Makowiecka is the Ipact Training Fellow and has primary responsibility for the conduct of the Ipact training courses. Krystyna has studied International Relations, Education for Primary Health Care and Epidemiology, and has extensive experience in training and teaching. She is a fellow of the Institute of Learning and Teaching and has run courses on social dimensions of health, with a special focus on women's health. Krystyna is also Lecturer in Maternal Health and course organiser for the MSc in Public Health in Developing Countries at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. At the School she has pastoral responsibility for personal tutees and supports students on their research projects and works on modules in data managerment and current issues in maternal and perinatal health. Krystyna has qualitative and quantitative research interests and has worked with Immpact in assessing in the Indonesian national village-based midwife programme and referral to hospital of women who suffer an obstetric emergency. She was closely involved in capacity strengthening activities with the Immpact team in Indonesia, training researchers and field workers in the use of computer packages for statistical analysis and in qualitative research methods. Her principal area of academic and programmatic interest is maternal and neonatal health. She also undertakes consultancies to monitor and evaluate programmes and has worked in Nepal, India and Pakistan, reviewing MNH programmes and projects.
